Our ex-apprentice now full time developer, Daryl was the runner-up in Sevenoaks Business Awards as Apprentice of the Year. Congratulations Daryl!
Fostering young talent is core to our business
Building our business and nurturing digital talent goes hand in hand; we guide young people through what's expected of them in a fast-paced industry, sharing our knowledge and expertise, in return we get fresh perspectives and ideas based on their intuition having grown up with the web. They never stop learning and neither do we.
Learn by doing
We believe in learning by doing. By working in small teams with the requirement to fulfil many different roles, apprentices get a wide range of experience meeting high standards in a fun, yet demanding environment. This provides them with the opportunity to understand how the services we offer are all part of helping our clients businesses succeed online.
Our first apprentice was a success
Daryl joined us in April 2014 and is staying with us now his apprenticeship is complete to help us train more apprentices across: website and app development; social media support; graphic design; search engine optimisation and video production.
Why digital apprenticeships?
We think apprentices can help the UK economy address a chronic digital skills gap. The House of Lords report 'Make or Break: The UK's Digital Future' (February 2015) makes the implications clear if we do nothing to address this:
"_Digital is everywhere, with digital skills now seen as vital life skills. It's obvious, however, that we're not learning the right skills to meet our future needs... The report makes it clear that our approach to educating people of all ages needs a radical re-think... We are at a make-or-break point for the future of the UK - for its economy, its workforce and its people. We have a choice as a country about whether we seize this opportunity or whether we fall behind._"
Beyond Local Apprenticeships are part of the answer
As a digital agency, Beyond Local's aim is to provide advanced apprenticeships for young people to help to address the digital skills gap. These apprenticeships will give young people real commercial experience and the skills required to give them the best chance of an exciting and lucrative career that will be of benefit to the wider economy.
In addition to running Beyond Local, we are currently working with the National Apprenticeship Service. We're Apprenticeships Ambassadors and work as part of the [SE LAAN] (https://www.gov.uk/government/news/david-meller-announced-as-chair-of-the-national-apprenticeship-ambassadors-network) across Essex, Kent, Surrey and Sussex to help promote the benefit of apprenticeships to young people and local businesses.
